Understanding Lightroom Classic Catalogues & the Library Module

Confused or intimidated by the Lightroom Classic catalog system? The thing that creates more trouble for Lightroom Classic users than anything else is understanding how catalogs work and how to successfully import and manage images in Lightroom. Fortunately, once you get the hang of it, it isn’t difficult and has quite a few advantages over many other imaging applications. In this session, I explain how Lightroom Classic catalogs work in simple terms and walk you through the basics of importing images into the catalog and then managing them easily and efficiently in the Library module. Topics include:

• How to properly use the Lightroom Classic import feature.
• Understanding what a Lightroom Classic catalog is and how it connects with the main image files on your hard drive.
• Managing your image collection entirely from within the Lightroom Classic Library module.
• Locating and synchronizing images that are missing from the Lightroom catalog. 
• Keywording, labeling, rating, filtering and searching your image collection to quickly locate any image.
• Using and managing image collections.

Let’s face it… we don’t always get to enjoy photography in the perfect light. And some times we don’t get to keep going back to the same places, so we basically get what we get. In this class, we’re going to look at various techniques in Lightroom to take your photos where the light feel a bit short, and really enhance them to add some depth and dimension to our outdoor photography.

Unlock the Power of Lightroom Range Masks to Create Powerful Landscape Photos

Perhaps one of the single most powerful and impactful tools within Lightroom is Range Masks. Before the introduction of Range Masks there wasn’t a way to make highly selective local adjustments inside of Lightroom, which in my opinion is what can take your images from good to great! In this class we’ll discuss the importance of local adjustments versus global adjustments and review how you can unlock the power of Range Masks to take your outdoor and landscape photos to an entirely new level.

Dodge and Burn with Adjustment Brushes

The Adjustment brush in Lightroom is much more powerful than most people realize. Colin is know for his ability to add depth and pop to photos by painting with light and shadow. This process is often called dodging and burning. Get ready for your flat images to leap off the screen with 3 dimensional depth! You will get a masterclass in using the adjustment brush and your photos will never be the same again.

Photoshop or Lightroom? Or Both? 

A very common question from new Lightroom users is when should I use Lightroom and when should I use Photoshop - and it is possible to use them together. In this session we’ll explore the greatest strengths of each program, look at examples of tackling common challenges and see how to see up a “two-way editing street” between Lightroom and Photoshop so that you can take full advantage of both programs.
